Factories, warehouses and yards share a common challenge: they are large, busy and often active around the clock. Protecting them depends less on a single measure and more on a handful of routines that are carried out the same way every day.
The perimeter
Walls and fences only help when someone checks them. Regular inspection of boundaries, lighting and signage finds gaps – a damaged section, an overgrown corner, a bulb that has failed – before they become an opening.
The gate
The gate is where the site meets the outside world. Clear procedures for vehicles, drivers, materials and visitors keep traffic moving while making sure everything that enters or leaves is recorded.
- Log vehicles and visitors on arrival and departure
- Check material passes against what is actually being moved
- Keep a clear route for emergency vehicles at all times
The shift handover
Many problems appear at the moment one team replaces another. A proper handover – a short briefing, a written log of anything outstanding, and a check of keys and equipment – makes sure nothing is lost between shifts.
On a large site, security is the sum of small habits repeated reliably, shift after shift.
Be ready for the unexpected
Everyone on site should know the emergency contacts, assembly points and what to do first. Rehearsing the basics now is far easier than working them out in the middle of an incident.
